One Million Patents Rights and the Rising China

http://www.chinawhisper.com/the-6-signs-that-china-is-becoming-a-patent-powerhouse/

Though everybody must be perplexed and astounded since having digested the unraveled truth of 1,000,000 and over patenting rights applications record in 2015 earned by China and having top slot consecutively since 2011 is somehow creating probes and shaking certainties with uncertainties but some research of (Hu, Peng & Lejing 2016) probed that these patent rights are probably less bothering to world since they are mere less innovative caused by inactive firms who failed to register for patents previously but other notion cannot be shunned that it is China which has strong hold in technology and leaving behind many advanced nations since The Chinese have a saying: “Nothing is impossible to a willing mind.”

1.Winning the Race

Obviously having second largest economy, everybody is eying on China, its military might, its political alliances, economic strategies, One Belt One Road initiative, innovation taking places, beauty of sea shores, gigantic skyscrapers, fireworks, Ice festivals and Job Booms. Every day, every second and every moment is being noticed and watched minutely. Some companies are eager to engage in business with it and some are curious to compete with firms within it but how and what are the areas to be sought with patent rights, where you have to register for and at, State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) China, the busiest office in the world leaving behind Japan, South Korea and USA in patent rights as indicated in graph below since 2011.

2. Billionaires

The authors have indicated in paper that resident patent applications have seen drastic surge and gigantic increasing trend as patents have sharply risen from 153,060 in 2007 to 415,829 in 2011 leaving behind so called inventing nations including the champion of billionaires (Transformational Leaders), if we take top twenty billionaires then certainly it would be United States of America which occupies top slots having 13 billionaires including Bill Gates, better known with Microsoft, Mark Zuckerberg famous with Facebook, Larry Ellison familiar with Oracle, Larry and Sergey affiliated with Google and many more while indeed China is having very few stars glittering in this field such as Wang Jianlin, the richest person in Asia, known as real estate mogul, and Jack Ma who is more inspiring with his ideology of e-commerce and with, out of box approach, ensuring a ground for promised future combat.

3. Human Capital Development

This spectacular rise is accompanied with a cause of foreign corporations’ fear of their technology being imitated if they failed to file their patent since Chinese local manufacturers and industrialists are wise and sharp enough to imitate their technology being one of the reasons elaborated but again it is reinforced in paper that invention patent applications have been surging faster to R& D expenditures for the innovators which is the delighting sign for time to come while one reason may be less fascinating that it is human capital of China which is having larger contribution towards patents and inventions and building The Great China.

4. Race for Noble Laureates

It would not be astronomical to disclose that it is USA who has garnered the crown of major inventions and discoveries in the world since it is the sole diverse nation harboring Noble Laureates more than 360 where as China even being ambitious is at last with approximate 12 Noble Award Winners in hand so quest remain challenged whether this peak of patents would be able to multiply in Noble Award Winners along with Darwin Awards, Oscar Awards and many more in multi different fields or still the journey to be long awaited.

5. Research and Development

Worthy to acknowledge that China is one of those outstanding few nations where Research and Development expenditure to GDP is more than 2 % (reported by http://data.worldbank.org) as primarily in 2012 it reached 1 trillion RMB (reported by China.org.cn)

6. Becoming the Great China

From economic rise to scientific competition, it is indeed China that has proved in many realms such as Bullet Trains, traveling at 420 km per hour, embarking on manufacturing, assembling, designing and training in this field, along with this, Beijing has embarked on commercial airplane manufacturing, a sector that is having more impediments and stumbling blocks but a willing a mind cannot be deviated, sooner or later and last but not the least China is indeed third country in the world, launched human into space in 2003, and having a plan to go on far side of the moon in 2018 in its Lunar mission.

The sheer and dynamic leadership of President Xi Jinping is ensuring that country is moving vertical and in right direction and days are not ahead when realm and hegemony it would have either in economy or science.

Transformational Leadership and its impact on employees’ Turnover Intention a study in private banks in Pakistan

http://ijbemr.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/TRANSFORMATIONAL-LEADERSHIP-AND-ITS-IMPACT-ON-EMPLOYEES%E2%80%99-TURNOVER-INTENTION-A-STUDY-IN-PRIVATE-MID-GROWING-BANKS-IN-PAKISTAN.pdf

With the arrival of WTO, organizational changes and reforms have been pondered constant,
Transformational leadership has played a drastic role in transforming organizations from bottom to top as evident from corporations such as Facebook, Wal-Mart, Google, and many
more but on contrary turnover intention have been found a factor, very troublesome and chronic violating diversity, growth, organizational prosperity and hampering attainment of
objectives set by top management. In this survey based study we have found transformational leadership has inverse relationship with turnover intention but insignificant, in mid-growing banks of Pakistan where employees are probed to be more concerned with financial benefits such as salary, bonus, increments, loans and other perks and incentives due to compelling financial conditions and worse economic situations thus implying transformational leadership has limited role to play.

Self Actualization and Obstacles in Dreams

Universe is expanding every moment, life is altering every nanosecond, and peoples appear, grow and disappear. The universe, we see is not the same as it was, faces are changing with the highest velocity, every day we hear new discoveries, new innovations and new perceptions. People are busy in their businesses so some desire to be billionaire, some aspire to be scientists and those who left with no option remain with mercy of fortune. It seems we have power to change but we are reluctant to authority of mightier who is beyond our perceptions. Religious scholars perceive that everything that happens is from God and atheists believe on contrary of it.

Every natural thing and manufactured machine has goals behind it, nothing exists in vain even nothing does occupy space and has purpose in it so how come the creature of God goes vain, empty and purposeless even human is the best among all entities and creatures.

This fact was very extensively understood by charismatic leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, and others, though having obstacles and challenges such as threat of life, imprisonment, and starvation, these transformational leaders pursued their dreams of high vitality.

1.     Obstacles in goals such as physiological needs, safety, love and esteem

It is manifested in history that Mahatma Gandhi strived for sole purpose of freedom even utilized civil disobedience. Likewise Nelson Mandela, born in 1918, trialed for treason, to achieve dream for prosperity of South Africa while maintaining his attitude even imprisoned but never submitted himself for first three layers of needs, firstly physiological needs, shelter, Food, clothes secondly safety needs, thirdly love or belonging, self respect and healthy positive admiration therefore it is inferred that creative contemplators and people not necessarily require other layers to cross for self actualization but they were capable enough for fulfilling their dreams pursuing from beginning.

2.     Pyramid of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs Theory

Maslow (1943) described needs in following pattern where people generally tend to move from bottom to top. He postulated that people are motivated to achieve certain needs when one need is fulfilled; a person seeks to fulfill the next one, and so on

That is perhaps the challenge and desire of every individual that to move up towards level of self actualization but people are bothered with failures and bottom layers where they tend to experience chronic social issues such as divorce and lower needs of food, job loss, family issues. Very few people in hundreds having such obstacles accomplish fulfilling dream of self actualization for that they sacrifice a lot more so a person may need to have following characteristics for self-actualizing since every individual has a dream.

3.     Characteristics of Self-actualizing Persons

  1. They are brave, realistic and rational so have ability to influence.
  2. They are having vast understanding of human nature, they realize the facts, accept the challenges, they have power to tackle circumstances, they are more friendly and pay no heed to stereotype.
  3. They are starters and emotionally intelligent.
  4. They are always focused and maintain their dignity.
  5. They are spontaneous and no unnecessary inhibitions.
  6. They can be alone but not lonely
  7. They seek justice for all and are honest.
  8. They are very clear about their primary goals and maintain continuous growth.

4.     Heroes, Inspired to Inspire

Vladimir Lenin, posthumous, controversial, born in wealthy middle class family in Russia inspired by the theory of Marxist, being arrested for sedition and exiled to Shushenskoye,  Minusinsky District for three years, after almost 30 years of life, worked against capitalism and propagated socialism across the world. Though his brother was killed, he himself was exiled but he never gave up and continued fulfilling his dream until his end of life in 1924.

Alexander the Great born in Greece (356 AD) and died in Babylon Iraq (BC 323) was a King of the Ancient Greek kingdom of Macedon and a member of the Argead dynasty. At the age of just twenty years, conquered Persian Empire explored Indian frontier at thirty. He was inspired to fight, inspired to rule and inspired to inspire the great kings of all times. He never gave up until he died due to chronic disease but before that his aim, his self actualization dream was to achieve what never have been achieved by his ancestors in history and coming generations.

Not only in wars, politics, but in science we find many names such as Alferd Nobel, Marie Curie, Thomas Edison, and in journalism Hellen Killer and many more who self actualized their dreams retained their names in books of generations, humanity and God.

The 4 dilemmas for the richest person of Asia, Wang Jianlin

Being a richest person is crazy phenomena every individual willing to have, a dream for self-actualization or then drawing for philanthropy but quest for core lies again unanswered. Moguls and magnates have catalyzed the world towards crazy ideas sometimes trapping people into ditch of charismatic leadership but otherwise being out of anomaly is just flowing with stream of water. Billionaires like pendulum moving between richest to philanthropist eventually who wins race no clue and just ambiguousness but explicitly the game is on.

  1. Wang Jianlin with Aggressiveness

Wang Jianlin, the man with iron fist, with history of serving 16 years of life for military in PLA, a member of communist party of China, graduate of Liaoning University in 1986, pronounced to be the richest men of Asia believes in culture, quoting culture industry has no profit ceilings and no tags and brands. This business giant, who is branded to be self made real estate developer, has accelerated investments in Hollywood by purchasing the productions of “Jurassic World” and “The Dark Knight,” in order to control the world’s gigantic film industry.

According to Forbes real time ranking 2016, Wang determined as 18th in billionaires’ list of the world, and Bloomberg in 2015 cited him as richest person in Aisa, presumed to be aggressive, and dominating. His horizons of business strategies are widening from real estate to culture and entertainment industry as Wanda, recognized as conglomerate, is world’s largest real estate enterprise and five star hotel owner, embraced the titles of largest Cinema operator and cultural enterprise in China.

He has set vision for Wanda to be the world class multinational organization with 200 billion dollars of assets, pursuing 100 billion dollar revenue and 10 billion dollar profit till 2020 implying his Napoleonic style of leadership as in military he was elevated from border guard to regimental commander with the virtue of Iron discipline which prevails in Wanda as Well.

  1. The Sharp Rise & Interests driving for Investments

Wang with clarity in goals once said, “There is nothing wrong with being No.1 worldwide” has been the display of his aggressive approach with will power which raised him to number 1 surpassing Jack Ma, revolutionist in Ecommerce In China, and Li Ka-Shing the world’s leading port investor, developer, operator and largest retailer in Asia and Europe for health and beauty.

A born of Sichuan Province, after serving 16 years in military, became general manager of Residential Development and joined Wanda in 1992 while elevated as CEO since 1993 managed to be transactional leader believes in human capital, giving place in fourth in his prioritized values. Innovation dominated with top spot, is said to be embedded in DNA of Wanda which is proved into real estate sector in China but cultural arenas still waiting to be glorified and fangled.

Wang, appears to believe in traditional Chinese culture, and enjoys luxury life style resultantly 26 five star hotels operated under his chairmanship of Dalian Wanda Group, He has also interest in Yacht where he has made investment irrespective of his focus and strategies by purchasing 92% stake in Sunseeker International, Dorset-based yacht producing company as reported by wealthx.

Wang who believes in culture expanding horizons towards entertainment industry intends to complete acquisition of cinema groups in London and United States and it is anticipated that Wanda conglomerate would be able to control 15% of global box office revenue and it would be 20% by 2020 or earlier.

  1. Philanthropist, Achievements and Awards

Wang in 2005, 2008, was awarded with “The Most Devoted Donator of Charity” by Ministry of Civil Affairs, 2009 awarded with title of “Model Individual for Supporting handicapped and disabled”, in 2010 he was honored as “Model Individual in Earthquake Relief Work in Yushu” by CPC Central Committee, the State Council, and the CMC and in 2014 & 2015 Topped in the list of Chinese Philanthropists of Forbes China.

Since beginning it is proclaimed by Wanda Group that it has donated to charitable organization and for various causes of approximate amount 3.2 Billion in Yuan and it is mere organization that has received 7 times China charity award. It just not ends here for Wang; a list of awards is such as “Best CEO in Asia” in 2015, “Businessman of the year” by Forbes Asia in 2013, “Business Leader of the decade” by CCTV in 2009 and many more.

  1. New Ventures and Challenges

There is no second perception that real estate has been dern for Wang Jianlin triumph along with other majority giants and billionaires in China where innovation is at progressive stage but this so called big bubble of Real Estate if explodes would indeed drag him towards bottom of the well where he belonged and left behind the real heroes that is why skeptically he has his strategy driving him for new ventures prominently culture industry in various countries but again his exaggeration or aggression is more intensive and penetrating.

From the current scenario, ambitious, and brash Wang seems to be impatient for eclipsing American hegemony in cultural industry while tilting the balance in entertainment industry where American were perceived to be leading but in this case it is China though impact is still to be measured.

Wang is indeed have been flat and overwhelming in real estate but cultural industry is a universe of ideas and perceptions that could be vigorous, religious and striving and to become a global leader isn’t like miracle as winning formula is way ahead and very few have ever reached and smacked the taste of it.

In recent past, $75 million loss from historic Edificio Espana, according to a statement to the Hong Kong stock exchange, Wang, with 2% fall in his wealth reported in USA Chinadaily, along with struggling real estate sector since valuations of real estate are down with tightening credit policy in the country and struggling economy, confronts rising star Jack Ma who has seen 41% rise in his wealth last year, seems to be competing and advancing swiftly in race of champions from China and undoubtedly from Asia raising questions for Wang’s consistency for being at top along with raising doubts whether new ventures of culture and entertainment across the globe would be able to keep him ahead and domineering

The 7 Leadership rules of Jack Ma

 Abstract

When we talk about leadership, we know many of the people having specialized skills and education those revolutionized in various fields, like Marck Zuckerberg, a computer expert and graduate of one of the best universities in world invented Facebook, and  like Bill Gates, launched Microsoft, Like Steve jobs, specialized in computer technology, initiated Apple inc,  but what about a person, Jack Ma, Chinese business magnate, investor, and philanthropist, who was just a English teacher,  was not computer scientist even did not know how to do coding, shattered the foundation of theories  of management and science and became the reason of revolution in e-commerce that was neither familiar nor at progressive stage in China. The man with simplicity left behind all the heroes, in row of success miracles.

 Leadership and Jack Ma

Jack Ma the founder and executive CEO of the AliBaba has set example of charismatic leadership in the country where internet was elusion while science was far behind and economy was struggling forward but his visionary leadership brought not only the ecommerce revolution but perplexed and surprised the entire world along with developed nations that visionary leadership exists here too.

According to Nwagbara (2011) In contemporary global world, where dynamics such as customization, employees importance, competitiveness, and constantly changing technology have a marginal influence on sustainability and growth so (Ghamrawi & Jammal,  2012) individuals cannot reach target alone therefore leadership in such a environment is pivotal for radical change in society.

Breathless efforts for achievements

Jack Ma, who not only flunked in math as the student, but also failed twice for securing admission in college and struggled enough for admission in his third attempt at Hangzhou Normal University, challenged the world of leaders that leader is someone who is not prone to the biggest hurdles but he is who, who can revive with visionary charismatic qualities and he is person who believes in consecutive struggle and inventing the opportunities when management styles are changing, structural changes are pertinent, resources are scarce, technology is introductory, people are machines and almost all business dynamics are under employed (Decenzo, Robbins, & Verhulst, 2011 p. 20),

Leadership is pondered to be the main source of driving organization onto the peak of glory and success and (Gul et al., 2012) these are the people who rise with vision of transforming a smaller organization into a giant organization and Jack Ma, proved to be the one who created organizations from bottom such as Alibaba.com, Taobao MarketplaceTmall, eTao, Alibaba Cloud Computing, Juhuasuan, 1688.com, AliExpress.com and Alipay.

Perplexingly he was one who attempted ten times for securing admission in Harvard University but they could not understand the worth of this giant legend and eventually now he  is set to deliver lectures at there in world best universities such as Harvard University itself other schools include Wharton School at the University of PennsylvaniaMassachusetts Institute of Technology, and Peking University.

Jack Ma, a Man of Virtues

A man who is labeled “trillion Hou”, meaning literally “Trillion Yuan Marquis” in Chinese was just a teacher in the beginning at Hangzhou Teachers Institute and worked informally as tour guide in Hangzhou, China. He became the pioneer in China’s growing information-technology sector proving to be the initiating leader who not only designed structure and roles but inspired the masses of the people (Robbins & Judge, 2013, p. 463)

Sanjay Varma who has remained AliBaba Vice-President narrated that being a leader Ma, has always remained humble, trustworthy, and intelligent and there is neither shift in his dynamic personality nor in his goals and vision. Indeed these are the virtues that a leader must possess in order to keep employees motivated, raise their organizational commitment, and elevate the desire to be at the top for perpetual success (Naresh, Pawan, and Chong, 2014).

Inventing the Opportunities

For pursuing the dreams, Ma found an opportunity for launching the first online directory with title “China Pages” and immediately in next year he established AliBaba in his own Hangzhou flat with optimum resources he could have, including 17 friends and $60,000 of funds at the time when e-commerce was unheard in China proving to be the leader by actions, team working, inspiring and empowering (Pierre and Paul, 2011)

Impervious in obstructions, firm in perceptions and unmatchable in personality attributes, Ma became one of the member of billionaire club in the world and owns $21.9bn in assets, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. His journey from a simple informal tour guide to most successful person from China is not that flat, obstacles less and failure less. His exceptional qualities and behavior such as supportiveness, openness, and relatedness with his inspiring visionary dreams (Robbins and Judge, 2013, p. 463) made him to stand in the row of consideration leadership where he resolved problems as opportunities with new solutions (Ekong et al., 2013).

Expanding the Boundaries

He has not merely brought radical change in ecommerce industry in China but has paved the way for new ventures such as travel booking company, navigation application, music-streaming service and football team, putting AliBaba beyond its core domain and running beside world giant organizations such as Google and GE indicating the qualities of being directive, achieving and participating leader (House, 1971).

Jack Ma who has not only seen failure several times but faced rejection, even was called crazy with outlandish ideas by his father who warned him many times that those ideas could have resulted imprisonment in an earlier generation. Taking his zeal, passion, and enthusiasm, he exchanged ideas with his friends and peers with intellectual stimulation, charisma and idealized influence (Bass, 1999) which converted dreams of China Pages, AliBaba, Taobao into reality.

Empowering Others

Spectacular, scrawny and just over 5 feet tall, Ma is found to be rejected by KFC when it came to his home town Hangzhou in east China and He said, “When KFC came to China, to my city 24 people went for the job 23 people were accepted I was the only guy who was not” while he decoded his secret and believes in most powerful quality of transformational leadership that if you want to triumph, then empower others and it is you who have to make sure that these people are better than you and in aftermath your success will be certain. Daft (2014) quoted saying the code of success is inspiring the followers and believing in their strength and potential.

Further Kim, Zhang and Zhang, (2016) narrated Jack Ma as driving force, when his organization TMall which is an online retail site and functioning under the aegis of AliBaba group confronted accusation of false advertising on China’s most famous social website Weibo where more than 1500 negative comments posted then this par-crisis anomaly was not only resolved swiftly but it was turned into opportunity for enhancing public relation through self mocking strategy, (Daft, 2014) as a change in response and style of leadership where conventional approaches fail for dealing such crisis.

Ma through his personality has inspired millions of people in China with his readiness to mock himself, speaking his mind, charismatic, energetic and humble behavior, he believes that women are crucial part of society and indeed they have played pivotal role in his success as their commitment and care for customer cannot be overlooked, (Kuppers, 2007) and indeed organizational success and survival both depend on leader and employees so employees must be empowered, encouraged and educated.

Bonding with Culture and Philanthropy

Ma, who is famous for being in love with Kung fu novels, travels with tai chi trainer is also prominent for his philanthropic vision and in this stance he won support from world tycoons such as Bill Gates and Warren Buffett.

Ma also served as a chair of the US Nature Conservancy’s China board of directors and said that if he cannot be a doctor but he can have his own approach to save lives while his focus would be on medical, environmental, educational and cultural programs by the virtue of his maverick leadership style having empathy, counseling, and development (Appelbaum et al, 2011).
